Overdependence on Tourist Income

“Overdependence on Tourist Income” focuses on how heavy pandemic losses in tourism-dependent sectors in Southeast Asia have highlighed how unsustainable an overdependence on tourism is. The team argues that this can be mitigated by encouraging local businesses in these sectors to Diversify, Innovate, Venture and Expand (DIVE). By applying the DIVE framework to the Thai and Balinese tourism markets, the project suggests several strategies for market diversification, with the aim of helping them grow to be sustainable and profitable markets in the long run. Our region is brimming with people and economic potential: how can we turn that potential into reality, and help Southeast Asia’s emerging markets flourish?
