Diversity in Singapore: the Ethnic Integration Policy

“Diversity in Singapore” explores the debate on Singapore's Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP), a policy aiming to prevent segregation in multi-ethnic Singapore by mandating balanced racial mixes in residential blocks. Through the unique angles of government, non-government organizations, and community groups, the project concludes that although the EIP’s goal to foster ethnic integration may be valuable, the policy itself lacks depth and efficacy, as it does not target cultural awareness issues and unintentionally creates further obstacles for certain groups. Racial identities are something we’re born with, but they also shape our everyday lives: policies we implement that see this issue of acceptance as black-and-white may exacerbate the issue instead of solving it.
