“Bumi Sedang Demam, Sudahkah Semua Paham?” by Gita Wirjawan (featuring Andhyta Firselly Utami)

By: Muhammad Al Mughni Putra Mukti Ali, Indonesia

This podcast episode featuring environmental economist Andhyta Firselly Utami (abbreviated as Afutami) is such a breath of fresh air in exploring the urgent issues of climate change and environmental sustainability. From the start, I'm able to resonate with Afutami's background of encountering diverse perspectives and diving independently into the liberal arts despite previously being in the science stream (M/IPA). This episode dissects the intricate relationship between the economy and the environment, highlighting the need for structural changes in public policy whilst being easily comprehensive.

Although I am not an environment expert, nor will I be specializing in it in my higher education studies, Afutami's call for international cooperation and innovative technologies to supplement policy interventions underscores the need for a multifaceted approach, something I firmly agree with. I believe this episode is superb material for aspiring Indonesian youths like myself. Even if said youths aren't people pursuing the subject professionally, we can use our extended knowledge and contribute not only to mitigating the world's environmental issues, but to improving Indonesia's societal development. Hence why I believe this podcast and Episode 80, in particular, serve as a clarion call for collective action and transformative change, reminding us that the stakes are too high for each and everyone's agendas.
